GUCCI SPRING: THE NEW ROMANTICISM OF DEMNA AND KATE MOSS
The Walk
For the Spring season, Gucci delivers its first major visual statement under Demna's artistic direction, landing on a romanticism that feels fresh and unpretentious. The House leans into the concept of rebirth, exploring the emotional intensity of human connections and the transformative power of love.
The campaign's short film, directed by Johan Renck, captures that magnetic and hypnotic energy that often occurs on the dance floor. We see Kate Moss lip-syncing to a profound cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" while around her, a room full of strangers awakens, pairs up, and falls in love. It is a well-crafted vignette about the sense of possibility that accompanies a new romance.
On the other hand, the photographic approach by Michal Chelbin works almost like a meticulously curated moodboard. Far from a traditional commercial aesthetic, Chelbin presents a series of intimate portraits that borrow the postures, compositions, and majesty of classical Renaissance painting, yet with a completely contemporary focus.
Through this lens, we can observe the garments from Demna's debut show: a new language of silhouettes and textures that proposes lightness and naturalness. The casting for these images reflects the brand's evolving spirit, bringing together ten very distinct profiles. From pop and global music figures like Shawn Mendes, Rico Nasty, Jin, Xiao Zhan, and NINGNING, to sports and modeling personalities like Tom Brady and Alex Consani.
It is a campaign that respects the historical weight of Gucci's archive but allows it to breathe in a modern environment. A clear sign that the House's contemporary expression is built just as much on the garments as on the atmosphere that surrounds them.
